Healthy Communities
Today’s construction projects - materials and methods - contribute to the proliferation of toxic substances linked to human disease, pollute the environment, and exacerbate the climate crisis.
One way HML addresses these major concerns is by demonstrating how non-toxic, low-carbon building materials can be used to create healthier affordable buildings, improving the health of people and ecosystems while dramatically reducing carbon emissions. We work with experienced, community based developers to build the capacity of communities to create replicable, healthy, sustainable, energy- efficient construction projects.
In recent years, we support the choice of plant and mineral-based products over more toxic options to reduce carbon emissions and create a healthier environment for residents and workers. Our goal is to gather healthier design and construction insights and lessons learned and share them widely to encourage change.
