Info Session for Students Designing with Flax

Have you used material from the flax plant in your design work? Interested in submitting your work for an exhibition?

An information session will be held on April 19th at 12pm EST via Zoom to answer questions. RSVP here

Parsons Healthy Materials Lab will host an exhibition on Flax at the Aronson Gallery in Fall 2024 in NY. The Regeneration exhibit will explore the process, lifecycle, and application of natural biogenic materials from the flax plant. We are hosting an open call for submissions for this exhibit!

We are looking for student work that uses material from the flax plant, such as linen textiles/fibers, linseed oil, or flax shive/straw. The project should consider the full lifecycle of their design, and incorporate positive health and environmental benefits. Submissions will be accepted from any discipline and interdisciplinary work is encouraged. Submissions will be evaluated on the use of flax as a material, compelling aesthetics, and a demonstration of novel innovation. This call is open to current students at The New School.

Submission Requirements:

  • Project Summary (200 Words)
  • 3-5 Hi res Images of Material Exploration
  • 3-5 Hi res Images of Project
  • Physical sample of the innovation - drop off sample at HML, 2 West 13th Street 310
  • Project size

    *Submissions are anonymous

Submitted projects will be reviewed by distinguished jurors for potential inclusion. Accepted submissions will be contacted via email by June 15th and will be considered for physical inclusion in the exhibition and/or shared virtually.

Submissions will be accepted until 05/27/2024. Submit here
