Restoration and Resilience: Rebuilding Ukraine

Join us for a conversation with Victoria Caubet, an architect specializing in heritage conservation and sustainable construction, as she shares her expertise in rebuilding war-damaged infrastructure in Ukraine. Victoria, currently leading the reconstruction of a school through Neo-Eco Ukraine, will discuss the use of circular design and sustainable materials, community engagement, and addressing the traumatic impacts of war.

Neo-Eco Ukraine is dedicated to transforming construction waste into resources for a greener future, showcasing innovative approaches to rebuilding communities while reducing environmental impact. The discussion will include insights into their work recycling materials from Ukraine’s war-damaged sites, promoting low-carbon solutions, and fostering local regeneration.

Alison Mears, co-founder and director of the Healthy Materials Lab will also present a brief overview of the work of a senior architecture studio at Parsons exploring regenerative adaptive reuse in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine and undertaken in collaboration with NeoEco Ukraine, Kharkiv University and the municipality of Kryvyi Rih.

SPEAKERS

Victoria Caubet is an Architect with a degree from the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Malaquais and a professional Mason specializing in heritage conservation and sustainable construction. She is currently leading the reconstruction of a war-damaged school in Ukraine at Neo-eco, focusing on the implementation of circular design and construction principles. Her experience includes research and development at BC Materials, specifically in earth and circular building materials. Victoria has collaborated on various projects with renowned firms such as Assemble and BC architects and has exhibited work internationally. She is committed to education and knowledge democratization through professional trainings and workshops.

Alison Mears, AIA, LEED AP, is an Associate Professor of Architecture at Parsons. She leverages her practice-based experience as an architect and her knowledge and experience as a long-term academic leader to address the health of the built environment and its negative impact on women and children. Alison lectures widely, disseminating current thinking within the field of material health. She recently co-founded, with Leila Behjat, the European Bureau of HML EU gGmbH to transfer new EU materials innovation to the US.
