Paint with Minerals, Not Plastic

We are surrounded by paint. On our walls and ceilings, on everyday products, and for the things we make. We are exposed to paint almost every minute of the day, but most people are unaware of the harmful chemicals they contain. The most common paint used globally is Acrylic or Synthetic Latex, derived from petroleum and petrochemicals, and high in embodied carbon. Mineral Paints are fundamentally different, formulated from minerals instead of petroleum. They are durable, non-toxic, and designed to nurture human health while protecting the ecosystems in which we live.

Join Healthy Materials Lab at Parsons’ Let’s Get Making Orientation for “Paint with Minerals, Not Plastic”, a hands-on exploration of mineral-based paint as a healthier alternative to the petroleum-derived acrylics found in most everyday spaces. Paint or stamp your own take-home piece, bring an old shirt, bag, or object to upcycle, or use one of ours while supplies last. You can also add a brushstroke to our collaborative mural. Either way, you’ll learn what makes this paint different, wall to wall.

Stop by our tables anytime during Let’s Get Making, no reservation necessary, just come on by to The Making Center at 2 West 13th St.

This event is open to New School First-Year students.
