Donghia healthier Materials Library is hiring Student Researcher Assistants: Fall 2022

Are you looking to join a team of passionate and creative people working to make the world a healthier place for all people? Donghia healthier Materials Library (DhML) is looking for Graduate Research Assistants and Undergraduate/Graduate Student Assistants to join our team.

Student Assistant

In this role you will work in the Donghia healthier Materials Library located at Parsons East Building 25 East 13th St, 3rd floor. The mission of the Library is to create a friendly and inviting environment for current students, faculty, alumni and NYC design professionals to promote materials investigation and exploration and YOU can be a part of the team! This is an on-campus, in person position for 6-12 hours/week.

Requirements:

  • 2nd-4th year undergraduate or graduate student at The New School
  • Must be a team player, hard-working, and ready to dive into new material
  • Experience in managing project timelines, teams, and work process
  • Detailed orientated, visual thinker, with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise in expressing and visually documenting process

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Open and close the Library
  • Maintain the order of the Library
  • Engage with visitors
  • Collect data on all requested materials or materials that you notice are missing from our collection
  • Assist Senior Researcher with administrative and ad hoc projects

Student Research Assistant

In this role you will work with the materials team as we expand our fundamental materials research and evaluation projects, add to HML’s web-based Materials Collection, assist in the development of practice based materials implementation tools and help build renovation palettes for affordable housing development. This is an on-campus position for 6-12 hours/week.

Requirements:

  • Graduate student at The New School
  • Strong sense of team spirit, disciplined and ready to see a task through and to dive into new material
  • Comfortable in contributing to a creative process
  • Interest or experience in the built environment
  • Experience in managing project timelines, teams, and work process

Desired Qualifications:

  • Detailed orientated, visual thinker, with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in or understanding of the materials design/selection process
  • Expertise in expressing and visually documenting process
  • Skills in graphic/communication design, autocad, adobe suite

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize and maintain research databases
  • Conduct fundamental materials research
  • Build and document materials palettes
  • Assist in the development of tools to assist Interior designers and architects change materials specifications.
  • Experience working in a variety of communities; particularly with a strong ability to respectfully represent and advocate for individuals from historically under-represented communities.
