Global Call for Participation: Advancing Material Health Worldwide

Healthy Materials Lab (US + EU), in partnership with Henning Larsen, has received a grant from the Ramboll Foundation, a Danish Enterprise Foundation, to expand global awareness of how building materials affect the health of people, the climate, ecosystems, and biodiversity.

Why This Matters

Every material choice for our buildings has consequences; on human health, on the air and water around us, and on the planet’s ability to sustain life. Yet, toxic materials continue to dominate construction, often with limited transparency. This global initiative aims to change that.

Building on years of research, advocacy, and education, Healthy Materials Lab (HML) and Henning Larsen are launching a six-month campaign to increase understanding of material health and accelerate the transition toward toxic-free, climate-safe building practices.

What We’re Asking

We’re calling on architects, designers, developers, manufacturers, owners, educators, and other building industry professionals from all regions and levels of expertise to participate in this global effort.

Your participation begins with a short survey that helps us understand general awareness of building materials relationship with both human and environmental health. Whether you’re just starting to explore this topic or you are working toward healthier specifications, your perspective is essential.

What You’ll Gain

Participants will receive:

  • Curated research and insights over six months highlighting global efforts toward healthier, more sustainable materials.
  • Real-world examples of practices and projects leading the way toward transparency and safer building products.
  • Opportunities to connect with a global community of like-minded professionals dedicated to improving material health.

And as a thank-you, all participants will be entered into a drawing to win a MushLume Lighting pendant (a beautiful, mycelium-grown fixture that embodies circular, non-toxic design).

Our Shared Goal

Together, we can make material transparency and healthier building practices the global standard. Your insights will help shape new resources, communications, and strategies that guide the next generation of sustainable design.

Join us in this global movement to create buildings that nurture both people and the planet.

Please take the survey today —your feedback is invaluable!
