This study examines the feasibility of hempcrete block production through hempcrete demonstration projects. Included are introductions to industrial hemp cultivation, hemp and lime use, the potential of manufacturing, and the creation of hemp-based products to create a complete cycle of block production to construct affordable and healthier housing. The project explores the potential creation of job training and new jobs in agriculture and in the construction industry in small, underserved rural communities. For this project, the Healthy Materials Lab, in partnership with local farmers, producers, and developers, aims to design and demonstrate how healthier building materials can be incorporated to create affordable housing in rural communities across the United States.
