The Room to Daydream, opening November 30th at Arianna Huffington's Thrive Global, introduces healthier materials to the world of healthier sleep habits. Our design is a 20 minute “daydream” experience in an environment that is attuned with the body’s mechanisms for napping, providing a comfortable and healthy space for a respite. Twenty minutes is proven to improve mood, alertness and motor skills. A visitor emerges relaxed and rejuvenated.

Students often use building insulation – extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam – to prototype designs. Unfortunately, XPS contains flame retardants that are harmful to human health. In summer 2016, the Healthy Materials Lab began looking for alternatives to XPS foam with student safety and wellness as the primary focus.
